WHO WE ARE

Steven G. Warland

Over the years I have always worked to support, guide and teach individuals. Most recently, I have been doing so as a counsellor and teacher who specializes in interpersonal communication. Through CentreGround, I work with individuals in helping them find greater satisfaction and fulfillment through developing personal and relationship skills.

I have worked as a consultant helping organizations in various areas such as team building, cross-cultural awareness, supportive work environments and organizational change. Some of my clients have included: the Surrey Art Gallery, Langley Family Services, St. Paul's Hospital, the Hospital Employees Union, the Kelowna Multicultural Society, Fletcher-Challenge, Forestry Canada, and various provincial government ministries such as Attorney General; Tourism, Small Business and Culture; and Social Services.

I have taught a wide range of courses including: Interpersonal Skills for the Workplace, Interpersonal Communication in the Multicultural Workplace, Oral Presentation and Leadership and Communication (Douglas College), Interpersonal Communication (Simon Fraser University) Effective Listening, Leadership Communication in Professional Contexts, Gender Communication, Listening and Contemporary Management (Cornell University), Public Speaking, Business and Professional Speech (Cornell University and Ithaca College) Acting, Voice Training (Ithaca College) Psychology (Tompkins Community College).

I have Bachelor of Arts in Speech and Drama (St. Olaf College), a M.A. in Communication (University of Nebraska) and post graduate work in counselling (Cornell University). I have had extensive workshop training in various counselling approaches and have worked with several mentors in further developing my counselling skills.

G. J. "Chip" Bradish

Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC)

CenterGround is my private practice that evolved from my collaboration with my close friend and colleague Steven Warland who currently practices in Vancouver, British Columbia (www.centreground.com). I have practiced in Jamaica Plain, MA since 1996.

My formal education consists of a Bachelor of Science degree from Cornell University (Ithaca, NY) and a Master of Arts degree in Counseling Psychology from Boston College (Chestnut Hill, MA). My post graduate studies have focused on group therapy, family mediation and Jungian Sandplay therapy.

My hope is to provide a safe, challenging and nurturing environment for people wanting to work hard on their problems, challenges, and injuries. I have found that over time I am most interested in working with a broad range of people from a wide perspective of lifestyles, economic circumstances, life experiences, and nationalities. I try to create a human and de-pathologizing environment that helps normalize our everyday experiences.

My job as a therapist is to engage you in a dialog that helps you unlock and see from a fresh perspective. Through differing techniques I will help you gain awareness of patterns, assumptions and attitudes that may impede your progress towards the goals you have for yourself. If you are in therapy for a specific problem we will work hard at examining it, describing the problems, trying to get a handle on it from a historical perspective and find creative ways to make things better. Often times it is not clear what a behavior or attitude is driven by, and this presents opportunities to explore past experiences, as well as future anxieties and worries. In summary, therapy is a very special environment in which to be curious about yourself and to become open to discussing your concerns with a trusted professional. This offers opportunities to be challenged and to be cared for so that you can optimally grow.
